   Häkkinen and Jacques Villeneuve: Formula 1: 'We used to need the handle, now it's all driving simulators and computers'

   At the Trento Sports Festival, the spotlight is on the combination of passion and daring that unites generations and disciplines: from the Formula 1 track to the individual challenges that shape champions. In a context where sport becomes tale and myth, two names emerge with opposite but complementary force: Mika Häkkinen and Jacques Villeneuve. Through their stories - of triumphs, risks and character - not only the spectacle of speed is told, but also the human face that beats behind the helmet. The occasion is the 75th anniversary of Formula 1, celebrated in Trento. The moral, anticipated by the two former champions, goes like this: today computers and simulators count more, in our time the handle counted more.
   Mika Häkkinen, the 'Flying Finn', twice world champion with McLaren in 1998 and 1999, remains one of the symbols of Formula 1 in its golden years: pure talent, glacial control and that rare ability to turn speed into an elegant gesture. Next to him, another name that evokes a legendary dynasty: Jacques Villeneuve, Canadian, son of the unforgettable Gilles. World Champion in 1997 with Williams, he ideally closed the circle of a family history marked by courage. A restless and unconventional driver, he travelled through Formula 1 with the same free spirit that later led him to music and the commentary microphones from the trackside.

From the risk of having to stop at the age of 16 to the rigours of the European Championship, it showed how much each step demanded character. A journey that continues today with Bologna FC.

    He won over the Festival audience Rafael Benítez. He did it with competence, sympathy and empathy. And how can you fail to applaud a coach who knows how to talk about technique, cups and clubs without ever forgetting the human side of sport? A cocktail of competence and Mediterranean warmth that works on the pitch but also off it. And that it works on the pitch, the football almanacs say so: the 'King of Cups' boasts 13 titles won in 3 countries and with 6 different teams. A very long career, that of Benítez, which started at the age of twenty-six with Real Madrid's youth team in 1986. Successes in half of Europe, among them the Champions League with Liverpool. Then two Uefa Cups with Valencia and Chelsea and two La Liga titles, again with Valencia. In Italy he won the Italian Super Cup with Inter in 2010 and then, in 2014, the Super Cup and Coppa Italia with Napoli.

    Kelly Doualla, the young 'child of the wind'

    An emerging talent in athletics, Kelly Doualla is a young Italian sprinter, born in Pavia in 2009 to parents from Cameroon, with whom she lives in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano. A gold medallist in the 100 metres at the European Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, in 2025, she became the youngest ever winner over the distance, entering the history of European athletics at just 15 years and 261 days old. Thus came the definitive consecration: Kelly Doualla is now considered one of the most promising Italian sprinters. On her debut in blue at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2025, she set a new European U18 record in the 100 metres, rewriting the best youth times in Italy. The best performances in the category, both U18 and U20, at national level were already hers before that 11.21 with which she took the continental record. "I knew I could do well but I could do better," said the speedy champion at the Trento Sports Festival, in a talk entitled "The daughter of the wind", an honorary reference to the legend Carl Lewis, in a pressing but fresh and at times hilarious dialogue with Chiara Soldi, a journalist from the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The recipe of Larissa Iapichino, long jumper of the Italian national team, is simple on paper, but to write it, the 23-year-old Florentine had to go through two big disappointments first at the 2025 Olympics and then at the World Championships last September.
