The path to candidacy for inclusion in the Unesco World Heritage List is demanding, complex and not a foregone conclusion, but the provincial administration is following all the instances promoted by the territory with equal attention: Trentino is a unicum of incomparable beauty and the commitment is the same for every single area. This was the starting point for the meeting that took place a few days ago between the vice-president and councillor for town planning, the environment and cooperation with the mayors of Predaia, Romeno and Sanzeno, as well as with the prior of the Sanctuary, Father Giorgio Silvestri, regarding the candidature of San Romedio as a Unesco World Heritage Site. The vice-president illustrated to the first citizens and the prior the indications received from the Unesco Office of the MiBac, which pointed out that each Member State can only present one candidacy per year, of a cultural or natural nature, thus recalling the need for an increasingly stringent and strict evaluation that requires combining the exceptional universal value with the character of novelty, i.e. of a missing piece in the World Heritage List, as required by the Guidelines.
If, therefore, the candidature of the Trentino Shrine is not pursued at the moment, this does not exclude continuing along the path. In fact, it is up to the Province to reformulate the proposal, a proposal that cannot be limited to the religious complex and its context, as a typology already represented on the World Heritage List, but will have to be extended to the context of reference and the cultural landscape, a path that the provincial administration intends to tackle by involving all the stakeholders in the area.
