Two separate incidents in Trentino in recent days have had the wolf as a protagonist. In the Fornaci locality, in the municipality of Pergine Valsugana, a pack targeted the donkeys of a farm protected by an electric fence. The defence tool - in this case owned by the breeder, but which the Province grants on loan for free use - ensured the donkeys' safety. In the excitement, an approximately 6-month-old female wolf got caught in the nets and presumably died of suffocation. Genetic investigations are aimed at identifying the herd. The second incident occurred at the malga Susine di Brentonico: the guard dogs protecting the cattle (6 specially trained Maremmani mares) left the facility at night and when they returned, one was missing. The dog was later found seriously injured due to a wolf attack and was therefore entrusted to the care of veterinarians. Investigations are being carried out by the Forestry Corps.
