We are satisfied because today, for the first time after the technical verifications of the last few weeks, the Ministry has officially committed itself to finding a solution to facilitate the relocation of the excess bear specimens, within a framework of measures and interventions that guarantee the safety of citizens and a fair balance between plantigrades and humans". These were the words of the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, at the end of the political round table discussion on the bear emergency in Trentino, at the Ministry of the Environment, where the councillor for agriculture, forests, hunting and fishing, Giulia Zanotelli, and the general manager of the Department of Civil Protection, Forests and Fauna, Raffaele De Col, were also present.
"Now the ministry will activate all its diplomatic channels to find new solutions abroad for the bears considered surplus in our territory," continued Fugatti. "We are therefore satisfied with the words of Minister Picchetto and Undersecretary Barbaro, who fully recognise the needs and reasons of the Autonomous Province of Trento. Now, however, we are also waiting for the technical table to review the Pacobace protocol,' the president concluded, 'because we believe that Trentino must have autonomy in the management of large carnivores.
