'This is a good, positive and encouraging sign. Having reached a quorum in the municipalities where citizens were called upon to elect new mayors indicates that the principles of democracy and the participation of the people in the management of the common good still hold out in Trentino'. This was the comment made by the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, on the outcome of the voting that on Sunday called to the polls the people of Lona-Lases, Fiavé and Borgo Chiese. On behalf of the provincial government, I would like to wish the new local administrators good work," said Fugatti, "in the hope that, day after day, the exercise of confrontation with the needs of the communities will strengthen the relationship of trust between citizens and institutions, which is the only antidote to the difficulties and pitfalls that can arise at any time and in any place. The Province will never fail to play its role alongside the municipalities, in the interest of the citizens, in whatever corner of Trentino they have decided to live".
"As far as Lona Lases is concerned," President Fugatti concludes, "this is an opportunity to express special thanks to the commissioners - from Federico Secchi to Alberto Francini - who in these difficult years have served to guarantee a democratic garrison and above all to represent a point of reference around which to rebuild the aggregative fabric that has made it possible to bring the situation back to a state of normality.
At 11.30 a.m. today, President Fugatti will travel to Lona-Lases to meet the new mayor Antonio Giacomelli together with Commissioner Francini.
