The laboratories of the Edmund Mach Foundation reported that the genetic analysis of the findings at the site of the physical contact between the bear and a mushroomer, which took place on Saturday 19 October in the municipality of Bleggio Superiore, produced no results. It was therefore not possible in this case to attribute the event with certainty to a specific plantigrade. It is believed that the small number of organic samples recovered at the site, on the one hand, and the high humidity of the context where the events took place, on the other, may have contributed to this. However, this is a scenario that, as is well known, can occur whenever genetic analysis of organic samples from difficult environmental contexts is carried out.
In the meantime, intensive monitoring activities by the provincial administration continue, in order to ensure the application of all possible management measures to protect public safety.
