This morning saw the successful conclusion of the search, uncovering and clearance of the war material found on 28 January at the Trento Nord railway bypass construction site, formerly known as Scalo Filzi.
The operations - planned and ordered by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety - ended at 11.30 a.m.. Specifically, a smoke grenade of about 50 centimetres dating back to the Second World War was unearthed; in the course of the operations, about a hundred 20 millimetre munitions were also recovered, presumably from anti-aircraft guns.
The operation did not disrupt road and rail traffic and was completed thanks to the synergic action of the specialised company BM Service, in charge of systematic clearance, the Bomb Disposal Unit of the 2nd Engineer Engineer Guastatori Regiment, which provided close assistance and supervision, the Civil Protection, Forestry and Fauna Department of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Trento Fire Brigade's permanent NBCR and SAPR Units and the Trentino Emergenza health unit, which ensured maximum safety and public security.
Once the closure of the operations has been formalised, ordinary site activities will continue, with the clearance of any further war material, in accordance with the work programme.
