  1. Locations

    Monte Baldo of Brentonico

    Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

The site covers the northernmost section of the Monte Baldo limestone chain (Monte Altissimo).
The lower part of Monte Altissimo is covered by extensive beech forests interspersed with large expanses of pingui pastures (spruce and silver fir are widespread on the northern slope). Higher up, there are alpine meadows, vast expanses of subalpine bushes (alders and mugoides) and rocky environments. In the area to the east, there is a characteristic limestone relief, located in the high mountain-subalpine belt, with the last patches of beech woodland giving way to subalpine bushes and, above all, pingy pastures, interspersed with rocky environments.

    Provincial nature reserve

The nature reserve, with its peculiar morphology, occupies the northernmost portion of the Monte Calisio, or Argentario, plateau, characterised by small reliefs interspersed with wide basins. This gentle, undulating morphology owes its origin to glacial exaction.

The Reserve is part of the wider Monte Barco - Le Grave Special Area of Conservation.

The Reserve is also a Special Area of Conservation and is one of the protected areas that make up the Sarca River Park.

  20. Locations

    Marocche di Dro

    Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

The Dro marocche (lower Sarca Valley) are formed by imposing detrital masses of a calcareous nature, of varying shapes and sizes, that have filled much of the valley floor. Inside them is a small lake that originated as a result of a landslide.
The entire area has an almost desert-like appearance, where vegetation colonises only the favourable portions with pioneer species, small patches of xeric grassland, nuclei of shrub vegetation and sometimes forest vegetation (thermophilous deciduous).
