Vouchers for study programmes abroad in the EU or the UK for the 2026/2027 academic year – ESF+

A grant for students to undertake a study programme abroad in European Union countries or the United Kingdom, with a view to improving their language skills and enhancing their understanding of other cultures.

This grant, known as an individual voucher, is designed to encourage attendance in:

• Year 3 for students attending four-year upper secondary schools

      or

• Year 4 for students at upper secondary schools in a European Union country or the United Kingdom.

The amount of the voucher depends on the host country, the duration (full year or part-year) of the study programme and the ICEF ‘Family’ indicator of family economic status. The voucher may also be supplemented by an additional lump-sum amount designed to encourage people with disabilities to take part in the scheme.

Where the course of study can take place

The educational programme must be undertaken at a foreign educational institution based in a European Union country or the United Kingdom. 

The organisation of the study programme is the responsibility of the student and their family.

How long does the programme last?

The study programme may last for a full year or part of a year:

• full academic year – the student is required to attend a foreign school for the entire academic year for a minimum of 240 days, failing which the voucher may be reduced or withdrawn;
• part-year programme – the student is required to attend a school abroad for aminimum of 110 days, failing which the voucher may be reduced or withdrawn.

When is the voucher paid out?

The voucher is paid in two instalments:

• the first instalment, as an advance payment, is equal to 50% of the total amount (including any additional amount granted by the Administration in the case of students with disabilities). Please refer to the Notice for details on how to submit applications and the relevant deadlines;
• the second instalment, covering the balance of 50 per cent of the total amount, is paid after the completion of the study programme, subject to verification of the Final Report completed by the foreign school (including any additional amount granted by the Administration in the case of students with disabilities).

Obligations of the student

The student is required to:

• attend the foreign school for the entire duration specified in the application(annual or part-year).
• submit, at the end of the school programme, theFinal Reportdrawn up by the foreign institution (in accordance with the procedures set out in the Notice), certifying the period of attendance and a positive assessment.

The voucher cannot be combined with scholarships or similar benefits awarded for the same purpose by the Province or by other public or private bodies, including non-profit organisations (e.g. INPS, Fondazione Caritro, Intercultura, WEP...).

The scheme is funded under Priority 2 ‘Education and Training’ of the Autonomous Province of Trento’s ESF+ Programme 2021–2027, with co-financing from the European Union – the European Social Fund Plus (40%), the Italian State (42%) and the Autonomous Province of Trento (18%). 

Students with the following characteristics:

1. aged 20 or under as at 9 January 2026;
2. belonging to a household with an ICEF ‘Family’ indicator of 0.83 or below (as shown in the 2024 ICEF Income and Assets Declaration, calculated from 15 September 2025);
3. residing in the province of Trento and, in the 2025/2026 academic year, attending Year 2a of four-year upper secondary schools or Year 3a of upper secondary education programmes at schools in the province of Trento or in other Italian provinces or regions;
   or those domiciled in the province of Trento and attending, in the 2025/2026 academic year, Year 2a of four-year upper secondary schools or Year 3a of upper secondary education programmes at schools in Trentino;
4. who have completed the 2025/2026 academic year without any outstanding academic requirements.

To submit a voucher application, you must :

1. calculate the ICEF ‘Family’ indicator derived from the 2024 Income and Assets Declaration, calculated from 15 September 2025: the certificate confirming this indicator does not need to be attached to the voucher application, as this indicator will be verified automatically.
   !!! The indicator is required for the purposes of drawing up the ranking list and determining the allocated quota, andmust be calculated by 9 January 2026 (the deadline for submitting the voucher application).
2. Register and complete the application online via the digital procedure using your Public Digital Identity System credentials(see the relevant Notice).

From 10.00 am on Tuesday 14 July 2026 until 12.30 pm on Friday 28 August 2026, it will be possible to submit an application for payment of the first instalment.

Failure to submit the application for payment of the first instalment by the specified deadline will result in the voucher application being forfeited.
