Description

A grant for students to undertake a study programme abroad in European Union countries or the United Kingdom, with a view to improving their language skills and deepening their understanding of other cultures.

This grant, known as an individual voucher, is designed to encourage attendance at:

     •Year 3 for students attending four-year upper secondary schools

      or

    • the fourth year for students at other upper secondary schoolsin a European Union country or the United Kingdom.

The amount of the voucher depends on the host country, the duration (full year or part-year) of the study programme and the ICEF 2025 family economic status indicator. The voucher may also be supplemented by an additional lump-sum payment designed to encourage people with disabilities to take part in the scheme.

Where the course can be undertaken

The educational programme must be undertaken at a foreign educational institution based in a European Union country or the United Kingdom.

The student and their family are responsible for organising the study programme.

How long does the programme last?

The study programme may last for a full year or part of a year:

  • Full-year programme – the student must attend a foreign school for the entire academic year for a minimum of 240 days, failing which the voucher may be reduced or withdrawn;
  • Partial duration – the student is required to attend a foreign school for a minimum of 110 days, failing which the voucher may be reduced or withdrawn.
Student obligations

The student is required to:

  • Attend the school abroad for the entire duration specified in the application (full year or part-year).
  • Submit, at the end of the school year, the Final Report drawn up by the foreign institution (in accordance with the procedures set out in the Call for Applications) certifying the period of school attendance and a positive assessment.
When is the voucher paid out?

The voucher is paid in two instalments:

  • The first instalment, as an advance payment, is equal to 50 per cent of the total amount (including any additional amount granted by the Administration in the case of students with disabilities). Please refer to the Notice for details on how to submit the documents and the relevant deadlines;
  • The second instalment, representing the balance of 50 per cent of the total amount, is paid upon completion of the course of study, subject to verification of the Final Report completed by the foreign school (including any additional amount granted by the Administration in the case of students with disabilities).

For full details and a breakdown of the voucher, please refer to the provisions set out in the Notice.

The scheme is co-funded by the European Union – European Social Fund Plus, the Italian State and the Autonomous Province of Trento.
