Obtaining a ropeway licence

In order to obtain the qualification of head of service or ropeway driver, it is necessary to pass a theoretical-practical examination.

The examination consists of:

• a test with multiple choice questions
• an oral interview;
• a practical test to be carried out on an installation of your choice in the province.

The oral interview is only conducted if the written examination is passed successfully and is taken on the same day as the written examination. The practical test may only be conducted after having successfully passed the oral interview and within 24 months from the date of submission of the application for admission to the theoretical-practical aptitude test.

The common requirements for aspiring heads of service and train drivers wishing to take part in the examinations are as follows

• age over 21 years for the qualification of head of service and over 18 years for the qualification of driver;
• physical and mental requirements for driving licences type C, D, E provided for in Articles 319 to 324 of Presidential Decree No 495 of 16 December 1992 'Regulations for the execution and implementation of the new Highway Code
• moral requirements for the driving licence provided for in Article 120 of the new Highway Code (Legislative Decree 285 of 30 April 1992).

Applicants for the qualification of head of service, for category B and C facilities, must have a secondary school diploma. Alternatively, they must possess

1. for the qualification of head of service of category B, the licence of head of service of category C or M or driver of category B or C;
2. for the qualification of head of service in category C, the licence of head of service in category B or M or of train driver in category B or C.

In both cases, the persons concerned must have performed the corresponding duties for a period of at least two years attested by a declaration of the technician in charge of the installation on which the said duties were performed.

The documents must be sent to the PEC address of the Ropeway and Ski Run Service.

In the event that a candidate registered for an examination session does not present him/herself on the day of the examination and does not communicate his/her absence before the session, he/she will have to submit a new application in order to participate in a subsequent session.
