Description
The tests of the certified geotechnical laboratory are standardised tests on rock samples, which can be divided into tests for recognition and classification, mechanical strength and deformability tests, etc.
The following tests are available
DETERMINATION OF PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
(ISRM 1979, part 1):
determination of water content; determination of porosity and density by the saturation and gauge method; determination of porosity and density by the saturation and hydrostatic weighing method
FREEZE-THAW CYCLE TREATMENT
(C.N.R. year XIV no. 80 - 1980; minimum technical time required 6 weeks. Royal Decree no. 3323 - p.8; minimum technical time required 2 weeks):
treatment in successive freeze-thaw cycles, performed in twenty cycles
UNIAXIAL COMPRESSION
(ISRM 1979):
uniaxial compression on a cylindrical specimen with determination of the breaking load, including cutting and grinding of the upper and lower faces of the specimen, dimensional survey, determination of the apparent volume weight
TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION
(ISRM 1983):
triaxial compression on a cylindrical specimen including cutting and grinding of the upper and lower faces of the specimen, dimensional measurement, determination of the apparent volume weight, measurement of the axial and diametric deformations with determination of the elastic modulus and Poisson's coefficient
INDIRECT TENSILE TEST 'BRAZILIAN' TYPE
(ISRM 1978):
indirect 'Brazilian' type tensile test, including specimen preparation, for each specimen
SHEAR TEST WITH HOEK APPARATUS ON SMOOTH OR NATURAL JOINTS
(ISRM 1974):
shear test with Hoek apparatus on smooth or natural joints
DETERMINATION OF BARTON JRC PROFILES
(ISRM 1978)
survey of joint roughness, with determination of Barton profiles (at least four profiles), with estimation of the JRC index, including processing and graphical representation, for each profile
DETERMINATION OF THE IMBIBITION COEFFICIENT ON STONE AGGREGATES
(CNR XXVI no. 137-1992)
determination of the coefficient of imbibition through saturation, conducted on aggregate specimens from 50 to 250 g
LOS ANGELES TEST ON STONE AGGREGATES
(CNR VII no. 34-1973):
determination of abrasion weight loss of stone aggregates with Los Angeles apparatus
DETERMINATION OF THE SENSITIVITY OF STONE AGGREGATES TO FROST
(CNR XIV no. 80-1980; minimum technical time 6 weeks):
treatment at 20 freeze-thaw cycles of an aggregate, including preliminary saturation, final drying and performance of the Los Angeles test on the treated specimen, excluding the initial reference Los Angeles test on the unfrozen specimen
POINT LOAD TEST PLT
(ISRM 1985):
determination of puncture resistance measured on an average of several breaks
MEASUREMENT OF ULTRASONIC VELOCITY OF ELASTIC WAVES
(ASTM D 2845 - 90):
measurement of the ultrasonic velocity of elastic compression waves Vp, excluding specimen preparation
JCS SCLEROMETRIC TEST
(ISRM 1978):
for determining the rebound index performed on rock or concrete (minimum ten rebounds per determination)
