What to do

The procedure for granting the Open mark certification in the case of ‘Events’ differs slightly from the standard procedure, in order to allow the use of the Open mark for the promotion of the event.

Preliminary stage: Self-assessment and verification by the assessor
Before submitting the application, the applicant must independently assess the level of accessibility of the site to be certified:
consults the Sector-Specific Guidelines relating to the ‘Events’ category and checks that the regulatory prerequisites, mandatory requirements and optional requirements are met;
selects the optional requirements to be met in order to achieve the minimum score required for the award of the Open mark, as specified in the Sector-Specific Regulations;
identify an Open mark-accredited verifier fromthe Registerto verify compliance with the requirements set out in the ‘Events’ sector-specific guidelines. The verifier issues the declaration of compliance to the operator.

First stage: Application for Open label certification

At least 60 days before the start date of the event, the applicant must submit the application for certification to the UMSE (Development and Support for Social Cohesion Policies) of the Agency for Social Cohesion (hereinafter the ‘Organiser’), attaching the assessor’s declaration of compliance and an initial verification report drawn up by the verifier, based solely on the documentary checks carried out by the verifier prior to the event. The verification report must be signed by the applicant’s legal representative and by the verifier, and constitutes a mandatory annex to the application.
The Managing Body will not proceed with the preliminary assessment of the application if it is submitted less than 60 days before the start date of the event.

Second stage: Examination by the managing body
The managing body will examine the application on the basis of the declarations provided by the applicant and the information contained in the verifier’s verification report.

Stage 3: Issuance of the certificate
Within 30 days of receiving the application, the Managing Body, based on the outcome of the assessment, shall issue the Open mark certification to the applicant by means of its own decision and authorise them to use the logo in communications in accordance with the instructions set out in the User Manual and the Guidelines for the correct use of the logo. It automatically enters the Open Mark-certified entity in the relevant subsection of the Register referred to in Article 16(2) of Provincial Law 1/2011 and notifies the Open Mark-certified entity and the auditor of the outcome of the decision.

On-site inspection at the event
The verifier carries out an on-site inspection during the event and draws up the second verification report.

Within 10 days of the event’s conclusion, the applicant shall send the second verification report to the Managing Body, signed by the legal representative of the Open-certified entity and by the verifier.

Confirmation of certification
The Managing Body, based on the outcome of the assessment, confirms or revokes the Open label certification and notifies the applicant and the auditor.

This certification procedure for ‘Events’ also applies in the case of a subsequent edition of the same event.
