Grants to municipalities for accessibility measures

In order to facilitate communication for people with disabilities, Council Resolution no. 619 of 30 April 2026 defined the criteria for the granting of contributions to the Municipalities of the Autonomous Province of Trento for the removal of communication barriers and the setting up of sensory decompression zones, in support of projects aimed at

• integrate urban signposting and safety signs with alternative augmentative communication (AAC) tools, with the aim of making public spaces more accessible and inclusive for people with communication difficulties
• set up sensory decompression zones in or near play areas in public parks to promote the sensory well-being of children with autism or other sensory and cognitive disabilities.

The funding is non-repayable, equal to 80% of the eligible expenditure, with the following specifications

• up to a maximum of €5,000.00, for interventions to integrate urban signage and/or safety indications with alternative augmentative communication (AAC) tools;
• up to a maximum of euro 20,000.00 for interventions to set up sensory decompression zones in or near play areas in public parks, through spaces dedicated to the reduction of stimuli, oriented towards acoustic and/or visual isolation.

The applicant municipality shall forfeit the grant and shall be required to repay the amounts received as an advance if, within 1 year from the date of the grant award notice, it has not submitted the final accounts.

Each application may only concern one of the two types of eligible interventions.

It is therefore not possible to apply for both types of intervention within the same application.

Municipalities in the Autonomous Province of Trento with the following limits

• one application per year for municipalities with up to 10,000 inhabitants
• two applications per year for municipalities with between 10,001 and 20,000 inhabitants
• three applications per year for municipalities with more than 20,001 inhabitants.

The grant application form, which can be downloaded in the 'forms' section, must be filled in, signed by the legal representative or his/her delegate and sent via PEC or interoperability P3, to Umse Disability and Social and Health Integration.

The grant application, drawn up according to the appropriate form, must be accompanied by the following minimum documentation

• Municipal Council resolution identifying the type of intervention to be carried out;
• any delegation to a person identified by the legal representative to submit and sign the application;
• planimetry indicating the type of intervention to be carried out and its location;
• technical data sheets of the equipment and communication tools;
• graphic representation of the sensory decompression area only;
• cost calculation and report with objectives;
• declaration of assumption of responsibility with respect to the direction of the execution of the intervention and verification of the quality and compliance with the regulations in force as regards the installations.

Applications can be submitted from 2 May to 30 June each year and will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis until resources are exhausted.
