Description
The holder of a valid driving licence issued by a non-EU Member State with which there is a specific international agreement and who has acquired registered residence in Italy may request conversion of the licence without taking the test.
It is possible to request the conversion into an Italian driving licence of driving licences issued by the following non-EU States
- Albania
- Algeria
- Andorra
- Argentina
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Brazil
- Philippines
- Japan
- Israel
- Kosovo
- Lebanon
- Macedonia
- Morocco
- Moldova
- Monaco
- United Kingdom
- Republic of Korea
- Republic of San Marino
- Serbia
- Switzerland
- Taiwan
- Tunisia
- Turkey
- Ukraine
Driving licence conversion is possible without any further tests or examinations if:
- it is still valid (i.e. has not expired) and was obtained before acquiring residency in Italy
- it is requested within a certain period after acquiring residence in Italy, which varies according to the State that issued the licence on the basis of the specific conversion agreement stipulated with Italy, as specified in the table for the conversion of licences issued by non-EU States
Restrictions
Before submitting your application, you must undergo a medical examination to ascertain your psycho-physical fitness to drive. The examination must be carried out by a doctor authorised to carry out examinations for driving licences (see list of authorised doctors); in the Province of Trento, the examination can be carried out at the Provincial Agency for Health Services (APSS), booking an appointment by contacting the CUP.
