Call for Young Researchers for Innovation 2024

With the "Premio Trentino per la Ricerca - Giovani ricercatrici e ricercatori" (Trentino Prize for Research - Young researchers), the Autonomous Province of Trento intends to award prizes in recognition of particularly deserving young researchers who have been carrying out research activities for at least one year in organisations within the provincial research and innovation system or in national research organisations in the province.

The prizes will be awarded following the evaluation of the research activity, suitably described and documented by the candidate when submitting the application, the subject of which must be related to one or more of the fields envisaged by the three scientific-disciplinary panels of the European Research Council(ERC ), i.e:

• Physical sciences and engineering;
• Life sciences;
• Humanities and Social Sciences

The purpose of this call for proposals is to recognise and enhance the quality and scientific value of the research activity, the ability to translate the results obtained into innovation with an impact on the economy and society, and the ability to disseminate them.

The winners will be announced at the Wired Next Fest, the innovation festival organised by the Province together with the publisher Condè Nast, which will take place in Rovereto from 26 to 29 September 2024.

PURPOSE

This call for entries has the following purposes

• to recognise and valorise the excellence of the research activity carried out by deserving young researchers belonging to provincial research organisations or national research bodies present in the province, as well as to promote the growth of human capital in scientific research
• highlight the relevance of the impact of research carried out in Trentino and its spin-offs as a driver of social and economic development, particularly in the provincial territory;
• encourage young researchers to undertake initiatives in the field of innovation with the aim of bringing the world of research closer to businesses;
• encourage the dissemination of science also to a non-specialist public in order to reduce the distance between citizens and the world of research.

This call for proposals is activated pursuant to Article 17, paragraph 2 bis, of Provincial Law no. 14 of 2 August 2005 (Provincial Law on Research) and in accordance with the general lines of action outlined in the Multi-Year Research Programme for the 16th Legislature, approved by Resolution of the Provincial Council no. 2193 of 22 December 2020.

Recipients of awards under this call for applications may only be natural persons.

Applicants wishing to take part in the call must meet the following requirements on the closing date for applications

• be aged no more than 35 years;
• be in possession of a Doctorate degree (PhD) or a specialisation degree in the health area or be enrolled in a PhD course/school
• have been conducting research activities in Trentino for at least one year at a research organisation or other public institutions carrying out research as part of the provincial research and innovation system. Research activities may also be carried out at research organisations of a national or international nature, provided that they have centres, sites, sections or laboratories permanently located in Trentino province for at least three years.

• complete the required forms
• attach a 16 euro revenue stamp to the application form or indicate the unique telematic code, date and time of issue of the revenue stamp.

AWARDING AND DISBURSEMENT OF PRIZES

The prizes for scientific excellence are awarded by the Committee for Research and Innovation (CRI), possibly with the support of external experts, while the prize for popularising science is awarded by an ad hoc appointed jury.

b) a description, in Italian or English, of a single research activity carried out by the candidate and deemed most representative of his/her research interests or of the research activity/topic addressed during the PhD course or undertaken after obtaining the PhD degree or the specialisation diploma. The description must be drawn up in accordance with the model in Annex 1 to the application form. The topic, which is the subject of the research activity described, must be related to one of the fields envisaged by the three disciplinary scientific panels of the European Research Council (ERC) namely:

• Physical Sciences and Engineering;
• Life sciences;
• Humanities and Social Sciences.

You are also required to indicate, for the panel chosen, one or more sub-panels to which the research activity/theme relates by selecting both panels and sub-panels from the list published by the European Commission at

c) a short curriculum vitae et studiorum in Italian or English in Europass format;

d) a short video in which the candidate presents the results of his/her research in an innovative, effective and understandable way for a non-specialist audience. The video must have the following minimum characteristics

- have a maximum duration of 3 minutes
- have a format compatible with uploading on Youtube
- be in Italian or English language
- not contain explicit advertising messages or offensive or violent content.

The candidate guarantees respect for the privacy of any subjects filmed and respect for any industrial property rights and copyrights.

The video realised must be uploaded on YouTube or equivalent platforms and the relevant link must be indicated in the application form;

e) (optional) The applicant may attach up to two academic reference letters to the documentation.
