Application for the hairdresser vocational qualification examination

In order to work as a hairdresser, it is necessary to obtain a special professional qualification after passing a specific examination. At least one technician in possession of the professional licence must be designated for each business location where the hairdressing activity is carried out. This may be the owner, a partner participating in the work, an assisting family member or an employee.

Conduct of the examination

The examination consists of a 4-hour practical test in which the candidate must perform two treatments (male and female cut), a technical service on one of the two models, and an interview after passing the practical test.

The interview is aimed at

• critically illustrate the practical test
• verify the integration of the skills demonstrated in the practical test with the knowledge underlying the exercise of the hairdressing profession in entrepreneurial form
• verify the acquisition of one's own coherent and adequate professional identity for the start-up of the hairdressing profession in entrepreneurial form.

To obtain the licence both tests must be passed with a minimum score of 6/10

To take part in the examination, it is necessary to fill in the online application on the dates indicated for the opening of the deadlines and pay the registration fee of 75.00 euro (cannot be refunded) with " PagoPA" indicating, the reason for payment, "Examination for qualification to the independent profession of hairdresser".

Applications may be submitted by applicants in possession of

Professional qualification and practical qualification course or provincial vocational training diploma in the hairdressing sector, as per the following, alternative routes

• professional qualification as a result of the three-year vocational training course, followed by a qualification course with mainly practical content lasting 400 hours
• vocational qualification as a result of the three-year vocational training course, followed by a provincial diploma of vocational training in the hairdressing sector, if the fourth year allows for the acquisition of the same skills as those envisaged at the end of the qualification courses
• vocational qualification following the two-year vocational training course, followed by a qualification course with mainly practical content lasting 740 hours

Work experience and theoretical qualification course, as per the following, alternative routes

• three years' work experience as a qualified employee, active partner or family helper in a hairdressing salon, followed by a vocational training course of 550 hours with mainly theoretical content
• Completion of an apprenticeship period, in a hairdressing company, pursuant to Act no. 25/1955, of the duration envisaged by the trade agreements, followed by a one-year work period as a qualified employee, active partner or family helper, followed by the professional qualification course

Professional qualification following professional training lasting at least two years, followed by a one-year period of employment as a qualified employee, active partner or family helper in a hairdressing company

Professional qualification as hairdresser as a result of a three-year vocational training course obtained as a private candidate and in possession of a five-year upper secondary school diploma followed by a qualification course of mainly practical content lasting 400 hours.
