Description
The regulation of inland navigation personnel, with regard to qualifications, titles and registration, is contained in Articles 128 to 135 of the Navigation Code, Articles 41 to 61 of the Inland Navigation Regulations and a series of decrees issued in execution and implementation of the aforementioned regulations.
Inland navigation personnel comprise seagoing personnel and port service personnel.
Navigational personnel are divided into three categories:
- command and lower force personnel assigned to deck and engine services and to on-board technical services in general
- personnel assigned to complementary on-board services,
- personnel assigned to small-scale navigation.
Seagoing personnel are registered in three separate registers, one for each category, and are provided with a seaman's booklet, which is a personal identity document and is valid as a passport in cases established by law or by international conventions.
Port service personnel include:
- port workers,
- boatmen.
Registers are kept by the UMCs.
