Announcement of the "Trentino Prize for Research

The 9 finalists of the first phase of the call for proposals

The Autonomous Province of Trento, with the "Premio Trentino per la Ricerca - Giovani ricercatrici e ricercatori" (Trentino Prize for Research - Young researchers), intends to award prizes in recognition of particularly deserving young researchers who have been carrying out research activities for at least one year in organisations belonging to the provincial research and innovation system or in national research bodies in the province.

The prizes will be awarded following the evaluation of the research activity, duly described and documented by the candidate when submitting the application, the subject of which must be related to one or more of the fields envisaged by the three scientific-disciplinary panels of the European Research Council(ERC ), i.e:

• Physical Sciences and Engineering;
• Life sciences;
• Humanities and Social Sciences

PURPOSE

The "Trentino Prize for Research" call for proposals has the following aims

1. to recognise and valorise the excellence of the research activity carried out by deserving young researchers, belonging to provincial research bodies or national research bodies present in the province and to promote the growth of human capital in scientific research
2. highlight the relevance of the impact of research carried out in Trentino and its spin-offs as a driver of social and economic development and, in particular, on the provincial territory;
3. encourage young researchers to undertake initiatives in the field of science dissemination with the aim of reducing the distance between citizens and the world of research.

STEPS

The "Trentino Prize for Research" is divided into 2 phases

FIRST PHASE - research excellence and impact

In this phase three prizes for each ERC panel are awarded to nine researchers selected following the evaluation of all the applications received and considered eligible.

SECOND PHASE - dissemination of science

The winners of the first phase compete for the additional prize for the dissemination of science.

This call for proposals is activated pursuant to Article 17, paragraph 2 bis, of Provincial Law no. 14 of 2 August 2005 (Provincial Law on Research) and in compliance with the general lines of action outlined in the Multiannual Research Programme for the 16th Legislature, approved by Resolution of the Provincial Council no. 2193 of 22 December 2020.

Recipients of awards under this call for applications may only be natural persons.

Applicants wishing to take part in the call must meet the following requirements on the closing date for applications

• be aged no more than 40 years;
• be in possession of a Doctorate degree (PhD) or a specialisation degree in the health area or be enrolled in a PhD course/school
• have been carrying out research activities in Trentino for at least one year at a research organisation or public institutions carrying out research as part of the provincial research and innovation system. Research activities may also be carried out at research organisations of a national or international nature, provided that they have centres, sites, sections or laboratories permanently located in Trentino province for at least three years.

• attach a 16 Euro revenue stamp to the application form or indicate the unique telematic code, date and time of issue of the revenue stamp.

AWARDING AND DISBURSEMENT OF PRIZES

The prizes for scientific excellence are awarded by the Committee for Research and Innovation (CRI), possibly with the support of external experts, while the prize for the popularisation of science is awarded by an ad hoc appointed jury.

• The application form, which can be downloaded below, must be filled in using the appropriate form complete with all the documentation.
  The application must be transmitted in pdf format, together with a copy of an identity document where required, by e-mail (regular mail or pec) to the following e-mail address serv.industriaricercaminerario@pec.provincia.tn.it from Thursday 22 September 2022 until Friday 04 November 2022 at 13.00 hours.

• a description, in Italian or English, of the research activity on a specific topic, carried out by the candidate during her/his PhD course or undertaken after obtaining the degree of PhD or the diploma of specialisation in the healthcare area and drawn up in accordance with the model in Annex 1 to the application form.

  The topic, which is the subject of the research activity described, must be related to one of the areas envisaged by the three disciplinary scientific panels of the European Research Council (ERC), namely:
  - Physical Sciences and Engineering;
  - Life sciences;
  - Humanities and Social Sciences

• Curriculum vitae et studiorum in Italian or English in Europass format
  
• a short video in which the candidate presents the results of his/her research in an innovative, effective and understandable way for a non-specialist audience. The video must have the following minimum characteristics
  - have a maximum duration of 3 minutes
  - have a format compatible with uploading on Youtube
  - be in Italian or English language
  - it must not contain explicit advertising messages or offensive or violent content.
  - The applicant guarantees to respect the privacy of any filmed
  filmed subjects and respect for any industrial property rights and copyrights.

• Photocopy of identity card (if the application is signed with a handwritten signature)
  
• (optional) The applicant may attach up to two academic reference letters to the documentation.
