The European Commission establishes EU Ecolabel criteria for different product categories to minimise their environmental impact throughout their life cycle while ensuring their high quality. As each product category is different, the criteria are adapted to meet their unique characteristics.
All criteria are developed in consultation with key stakeholders, including consumer associations and experts in the relevant field. They are regularly reviewed by the EU Eco-labelling Board (EUEB), which takes into account technical innovations or market changes to ensure that they are up-to-date, robust and reliable.
