On 4 February 2022, Euregio and Autonomous Province of Trento President Maurizio Fugatti presented the programme of the 2021-2023 Trentino Presidency to the Euregio Council and Gect Assembly held at the Euregio's Trentino headquarters in Casa Moggioli in via Grazioli.
The approval of the programme gave an operational start to the two-year Trentino presidency of the Euregio, which intends to combine innovation on a number of projects, in continuity with the spirit and actions carried out in previous managements. "The two-year Trentino presidency of the Euregio," stressed President Fugatti, "starts from the excellent result of the Tyrolean management, which, with Landeshauptmann Platter, has been able to continue the Euregio's activities and implement them in a very difficult phase marked by the pandemic.
The starting point for the 2021-2023 Trentino Presidency of the Euregio Tirol-South Tyrol-Trentino is the changed political, economic and societal framework due to the pandemic and the desire to capitalise on and exploit the results of the projects implemented, further strengthening the cultural and social ties of the Euregio territories, but at the same time implementing the Gect's activities by focusing on new projects that primarily concern young people, and with them training and the labour market, culture and equal opportunities.
"The Euregio is young
The motto chosen for the 2021-2023 Trentino presidency is "The Euregio is young" to emphasise that the focus of the action will be on the young generations, with 2022 coinciding with the European Year of Youth, and to highlight that the Gect is a recent institution - it celebrated its first 10 years in 2021 - as recent as the reform of its founding acts.
"We would like the Euregio of the Trentino presidency to be a Euregio of young people," Fugatti emphasised, "because investing in the new generations is an investment in the future and in general is closer to citizens with concrete initiatives and new activities, involving local authorities more strongly. This is the direction in which the Council of Municipalities, which was presented during the end of the Tyrolean presidency and will now be launched under the operational plan, is heading.
The Euregio Reform
During the Tyrolean presidency, the basic themes of the Euregio that originate from the work of previous presidencies will also be continued. Among others, those relating to the institutional reform of the Euregio to be implemented. In what way? By expanding the activities and tasks of the Gect and strengthening its democratic legitimacy. Among the practical applications are the establishment of specialised councils, the strengthening of the Gect assembly also through greater coordination with the Dreierlandtag, the involvement of the municipalities with the activation of the Council of Municipalities.
South Tyrolean President Arno Kompatscher wished the new Euregio presidency fruitful work and success in its future tasks and congratulated it on the work already done, "thanks to which our young Euregio has already become a landmark and can contribute a lot to building a positive and sustainable future".
For Tyrol's Captain Günther Platter, "it is very important that after the successful renewal of the Euregio, we now use our possibilities for cross-border cooperation with concrete projects. 2022 is the European Year of Youth, which is why we are also placing a very specific focus on pushing youth programmes in the Euregio. Thanks to the creation of the Euregio Council of Municipalities, we now also have the opportunity to integrate interesting initiatives that come directly from the municipalities more strongly into the joint Euregio programme. Because only if the ideas come from the grassroots will we also achieve the goal of anchoring the Euregio in the hearts and minds of citizens.
