Description
The exciting walk stretches from Thaur to San Romedio, is 180 kilometres long and has an altitude difference of 9,800 metres, to be tackled in 12 one-day stages. The Way of San Romedio is able to convey moments of peace and recollection to pilgrims, who at the same time can get to know the variety and beauty of the Euregio Tirolo-Alto Adige-Trentino.
Born from the idea of two personalities
The mountain guide Hans Staud, together with the dean Martin Ferner - both from Thaur in Tyrol - initiated the St. Romedius Way in 2014, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Innsbruck diocese. St Romedius is the patron saint of pilgrims and walkers.
Beyond borders: from the Alps to the Mediterranean
Since time immemorial, mountain passes and crossings have not been a dividing element, but a unifying element between areas.
The route will take you through gentle valleys and historic towns, as well as imposing mountain passes and backs. From North Tyrol via South Tyrol to Trentino: from a German-speaking territory to an Italian-speaking one. On the way, one crosses borders, not only those between Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino, but also one's own spiritual borders.
