Description

Supervision is carried out by technicians with the status of judicial police officers in charge of the Service, with regard to those who report quarry or mine operations to the supervisory authority, with the aim of verifying that activities are carried out in compliance with provincial and national sector regulations, with a view to prevention aimed at encouraging self-discipline by informing the public of legal obligations.

The supervision carried out by the Service concerns

  • compliance with excavation projects
  • compliance with the specific mining police regulations set out in Presidential Decree 128/1959 aimed at protecting the safety and health of workers, ensuring the smooth running of operations in respect of the safety of third parties and activities of overriding general interest, and guaranteeing the good governance of mineral deposits
  • the protection of workers' health and safety in activities related to extraction and initial processing, such as flaking and sorting in the porphyry sector and material screening and sorting in the aggregates sector, for which other provisions are observed, including Legislative Decree 624/1996 and Legislative Decree 81/2008.

In addition, accident cases occurring in the sector are examined and the relevant investigations are handled on behalf of the judicial authorities.

In the area of mining activities, supervisory activities are also carried out by the PAT Labour Service and, as regards work not included in the mining production cycle involving the use of mining products, such as second and third operations, by the Workplace Prevention and Safety Operating Unit (UOPSAL) of the APSS.

To this end, the Provincial Council annually approves the 'Annual Programme of Inspections of the Prospecting, Cultivation and Processing of Quarry Materials', which establishes the minimum inspections required in the sector by the aforementioned bodies.
