Geological Cartography - The CARG Project

At the end of the 1980s, the Project for the creation of national geological cartography at a scale of 1:50,000 got underway, initially in the sphere of the Annual Programme of Urgent Environmental Protection Interventions (L. 67/88) and then in the Three-Year Programme for the Protection of the Environment (L. 305/89) thanks to the allocation of dedicated resources that gave rise to the CARG (CARtografia Geologica) Project. The Project is carried out in collaboration with the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, the CNR and Universities and is coordinated by ISPRA through the Department for the Geological Survey of Italy as the official cartographic body of the State (L. 160/2019).

Description

The CARG - P.A.T. Project is articulated in several funding packages, each of which provides for the realisation of one or more Geological Sheets.

Sheets no. 25, 26, 28 and 43 were realised in collaboration with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, and Sheet no. 79 with the Region of Lombardy. Sheet No. 27 'Bolzano' and Sheet No. 28 'La Marmolada' were published in the 1970s as experimental papers prior to the CARG Project.

Sheet Nos. 24 and 41, which partly cover the provincial territory, were produced by the Lombardy Region.

The following Sheets are currently being followed directly by P.A.T.: sheet no. 61 'Borgo Valsugana' and sheet no. 81 'Rovereto'. Sheet no. 44 'Predazzo', on the other hand, is carried out in collaboration with the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
