Description
Nestled between Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites, the Biosphere Reserve Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria has obtained this precious recognition from UNESCO not only by virtue of the extraordinary biodiversity and incredible historical and cultural wealth that characterise this area, but also for the balance that has been created between man and nature over the centuries. In just thirty kilometres in length as the crow flies, the territory of the Biosphere Reserve includes very diverse environments ranging from the Dolomite mountain peaks to the river environments of the Sarca and Chiese rivers. No less important are the historical and archaeological testimonies, which demonstrate the antiquity and continuity of human presence in the area.
The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme is an intergovernmental scientific programme initiated by UNESCO to promote a balanced relationship between man and the environment through the protection of biodiversity and sustainable development for the protection of natural ecosystems.
