Description
The first day combined strategic contributions and a moderated thematic workshop. Representatives from the Malopolska Region and the City of Krakow presented regional and local approaches to spatial planning and brownfield redevelopment. The partners then exchanged experiences on governance models, stakeholder involvement and practical tools for sustainable spatial transformation.
Study visits provided concrete insights into urban regeneration projects. At "Białe Morza" (White Seas), the partners explored a former industrial site for soda production, currently being prepared to be transformed into a large public green space. Zakrzówek Park, carved out of a former limestone quarry, illustrated how a post-industrial area can become a unique biodiversity landmark and recreational area. A visit to the Szymborska Park , opened in 2023 in the city centre, showed a successful example of urban regeneration based on civic involvement and adaptive reuse.
In addition, the municipality of Libiąż presented its experience in post-mining redevelopment and managing the transition to more sustainable land-use patterns.
The meeting strengthened the interregional exchange within Green LUPO and provided concrete ideas for improving regional policy instruments related to brownfield redevelopment in partner regions.
