Responsibilities and functions
The Co-ordination Commission authorises the carrying out of works relating to the ski run and lift system as provided for in Provincial Law No. 7 of 21 April 1987, ‘Regulations governing cable car systems for public transport and ski runs’, and the relevant implementing regulations. The size thresholds for projects falling within the Commission’s authorisation powers are established by the Provincial Executive by Resolution No. 67 of 24 January 2020. The works eligible for authorisation are, however, set out in Articles 100 and 101 of the Provincial Town and Country Planning and Building Regulations (Provincial Law No. 15 of 4 August 2015).
Mountain bike downhill trails known as“Bike-park”, as referred to in Article 53-ter of Provincial Law 7/87, which primarily utilise existing ski runs, may be constructed and managed by the owners of the ski runs or by other public or private entities, subject to the granting of authorisation by the Coordination Commission.
The Commission also authorises the carrying out of works relating to the construction or modification of mountaineering facilities provided for in Article 2(1)(a) and (b) of Provincial Law No. 8 of 15 March 1993 (Provincial Law on Mountain Huts and Alpine Trails), including the related works and ancillary infrastructure.
Finally, the Commission issues opinions on any matter relating to cableways and ski runs referred to it by the Provincial Executive or by provincial bodies.
To obtain authorisation, an applicationmust be submitted to the Co-ordination Committee via the Cableway Services Department.
