Responsibilities and functions
The ITACA Institute is a technical body of the Conference of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces.
Established in 1996 at the instigation of the Italian Regions under the name 'Institute for Transparency, Updating and Certification of Contracts', ITACA is a non-profit association whose founding members are the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, with the aim of activating actions shared by the regional system to promote and guarantee effective coordination between them, and to ensure the best connection with state institutions, local authorities and operators in the sector.
Since 2005 ITACA has adopted its new name 'Institute for Innovation and Transparency in Procurement and Environmental Compatibility', which, while confirming its statutory identity, also emphasises its commitment to environmental sustainability issues.
ITACA works on punctual objectives of stimulation, coordination and harmonisation in key sectors of public administration activity, seeking to enhance its autonomy and responsibility.
The activity is carried out with the involvement not only of regional experts, but also of representatives of state and local administrations and representative bodies of the sector categories. This work has allowed, on the one hand, a broad and concrete comparison on issues identified from time to time, and on the other, the exchange of knowledge and sharing of projects that may constitute socio-economic and environmental development hypotheses for the country.
This is a heritage that the Regions are making full use of and exploiting in recent years.
