Responsibilities and functions
Proton therapy is a precision radiation treatment using heavy particles, protons, through the cyclotron that generates them and a beam transport and release system.
The Trento Centre is equipped with two treatment chambers dedicated to patients and one, for experimental and research use, with a fixed proton beam.
Research infrastructures
A decisive role in the Trentino research and innovation system is played by Research Infrastructures (IR), which can be traced back to laboratories or facilities with a high scientific and technological profile.
They represent incubators of scientific and technological knowledge and nuclei of aggregation between the worlds of research and enterprise.
Among the laboratories that structurally reflect the characteristics of an IR in the Trento Protontherapy Centre are:
- LFP (Laboratory for Proton Beams), dedicated to radiobiology experiments and applications in radiotherapy . The experimental room can also be used for studies in space physics and microelectronics, in the fields of sensor technology, space research and supercomputing.
