History of the Special Autonomy of Trentino - South Tyrol

At the origins of our Autonomy lies a centuries-old history, made up of complex events, traditions, civic customs, and rules that communities have given themselves and jealously preserved in spite of political and social upheavals. This is where the Trentino people's aptitude for self-government, for doing their own thing, stems from: without any selfish closure, moreover, but always maintaining the capacity for dialogue with everything outside their borders, from the neighbouring regions to the government in Rome and the European Union.
