The President of the Autonomous Province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti spoke this afternoon in Merano at the Dreier Landtag, the meeting of the three legislative assemblies of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. Recalling that on 21 May 1991, in Merano itself, a meeting similar to today's was held for the first time, Fugatti invited those present to rewind the ribbon of history: 'Try to think of the emotion, the passion, the unity of purpose that accompanied the first meeting of the Dreier Landtag at that time. Today, then, this sitting becomes a place of memory, but it is also a place of vision: we have also heard this from the speeches that preceded me,' Fugatti began. "The motions presented, which I have had the opportunity to read, address many issues that look to the future, such as democracy, schools, hydropower, disability, tourism, climate change, youth, cross-border cooperation, and health. We want to address these areas with a common vision, which is the spirit of these days. At a difficult time at the international level, including for Europe, which is struggling to find common paths, and at a time when diplomatic and institutional relations are not without difficulties, we must bring our example of territories with deep, centuries-old historical roots, united by a desire to coexist,' the president stressed. 'We are small compared to others, but we are capable of finding joint institutional paths. We need to confront each other, but we know that confrontation will lead to a better relationship between our territories and to a better vision of the future,' Fugatti further said, also recalling the important work carried out by the Euregio EGTC and thanking the President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and current Euregio President Arno Kompatscher for bringing so many issues to the ground. "Constant work that, we have seen also from the latest decisions, is yielding excellent results," he concluded.
