6. Protontherapy

   The Protontherapy Centre in Trento is a specialist facility dedicated to the treatment of tumours through sophisticated technology: proton therapy, a type of radiotherapy that uses a beam of protons to irradiate diseased tissue. Its main advantage is that it is able to precisely target the radiation on tumour cells, while sparing healthy tissues and organs. The Proton Therapy Centre started its clinical activity in October 2014 and is one of the operating units at Trento Hospital. Since it has state-of-the-art machinery, it carries out research and development in parallel with its tumour treatment activities, which also involve experimental fields in addition to the medical one.

8. FBK - Bruno Kessler Foundation

   The Fondazione Bruno Kessler takes up the legacy of the ITC - Istituto Trentino di Cultura, which for over forty years has carried out research activities of international significance. Today, the Fondazione Bruno Kessler is a public-interest, non-profit research body: through 2 scientific poles, one dedicated to technologies and innovation and one to human and social sciences, 7 Research Centres, more than 400 researchers, FBK aims at excellence in science and technology with a special focus on interdisciplinary approaches and the application dimension.
