The Autonomous Province of Trento is the leader of a new project within the Arge Alp Working Community, which from January 2026 will focus on raising the population's awareness of what to do in the event of flood risk. The initiative, developed by the Department of Civil Protection, Forests and Fauna of the Autonomous Province of Trento, has already received preliminary approval from the Steering Committee of the Alpine Working Community and will be definitively ratified at the Arge Alp Heads of Government Conference to be held in Trento on 24 October.
The idea behind the project stems from the awareness that defence works alone - e.g. embankments, weirs, avalanche barriers - cannot eliminate hydrogeological risks. Technology and infrastructures, in fact, are not enough to guarantee safety when risky individual behaviour can produce even serious consequences. It is therefore essential to invest in clear and shared communication that helps citizens understand the risks and react responsibly in emergency situations. "Protecting ourselves from hydrogeological risks is only possible if each one of us becomes an active part of the prevention process," emphasises project coordinator Stefano Fait, general manager of the Civil Protection, Forestry and Fauna Department PAT. "With this initiative, we want to build a new awareness, involving citizens and institutions in a process that focuses on the safety and responsibility of the entire community.
