The publication of data on the overall development of the gross domestic product (GDP) in Trentino for the year 2024 is expected on Thursday, 7 August. In the meantime, Ispat today released an indicator referring exclusively to the growth rate of real GDP per capita for 2023. This is a figure calculated by dividing the GDP at real values by the average population. According to the preliminary Istat estimate, Trentino's GDP in 2023 grew by 0.2 per cent, while the population increased by 0.4 per cent. Since the increase in population was proportionally higher, the ratio shows a decline in GDP per capita of 0.2%.
However, it is important to note that Ispat recently updated its estimate of real GDP 2023 to 0.7% growth. The previous estimate was 1.3%, but was revised in light of the new ISTAT time series based on the reference year 2020, which entailed a recalculation of the overall picture. Applying this new estimate of GDP (+0.7%) to the calculation of the indicator, the GDP per capita for 2023 would instead grow by 0.3%, against a population increased by 0.4%.
It should be noted, therefore, that today's data refer only to per capita GDP and should not be confused with the estimates of the overall GDP trend, which, as mentioned, will be the subject of the report scheduled for Thursday, 7 August, which will be dedicated to the advance estimate of the 2024 GDP, equal to +0.8%, but which, in the level data, will also include the updated Ispat estimate for 2023.
