The President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, met the American Consul General in Milan, Douglass Benning, at the headquarters in Piazza Dante. The conversation, characterised by a cordial tone, focused on various aspects of the collaboration between the Province of Trento and the United States of America, with particular attention to the economic, cultural, and scientific and technological fields of research.
A central point of the talks was the topic of the 15% tariffs introduced last August as part of the agreement between the European Union and the United States. President Fugatti expressed the Province's strong concern over the concrete effects of these measures on Trentino production, which has always been a symbol of quality and sustainability. He also pointed out that the American market represents a fundamental outlet for numerous local agri-food chains, which today risk suffering competitive damage. Fugatti therefore invited Consul General Benning to make himself an interpreter to the US authorities of the need to protect Trentino's products of excellence, which represent a distinctive value of the territory and an internationally recognised model of sustainability.
