Work continues on the interior restoration of Trento Cathedral. Today, the construction site was visited by a delegation from the Archdiocese led by Archbishop Lauro Tisi and a delegation from the Autonomous Province led by President Maurizio Fugatti, accompanied by Councillor Mirko Bisesti.
With the guidance of architect Ivo Bonapace (site director) and engineer Edoardo Iob (procedure manager), the two delegations were able to verify up close, climbing up the scaffolding, the progress of the work in the eastern section of the Cathedral (transept, tiburium, apse). This is the third and final lot of the intervention, which began in 2017. The work - carried out by the company Lares of Venice - continues with the restoration of the stone facings and the structural consolidation of the building, both with regard to the wall males and piers and the arches and vaulted structures, with the aid of the survey systems already used in the previous parts of the intervention.
Restoration work is also underway on the frescoed surfaces on the north and south sides of the transept, where no less than 24 precious paintings from the 12th and 13th centuries are to be found, covering a total area of over one hundred square metres. The frescoed surfaces, subjected to numerous cognitive investigations and the first cleaning operations, are restoring works of art now almost completely concealed by dirt and deposits that no longer allowed the uniqueness and richness of the decorated surface to be appreciated.
