Temperatures above seasonal averages and very little winter precipitation conditioned the accumulation of snow on Trentino's glaciers. A critical situation, which only saw the most significant precipitation in April and May. The 2023 report of the altitude measurement campaign (attached to the press release) shows that the snowpack accumulation data are lower than in previous seasons, excluding the year 2022. The snow cover is in fact higher than last year, thanks to abundant precipitation and favourable temperatures in recent weeks. All the glaciers in Trentino are still covered in snow: on the Careser, taken as a reference point, a snow depth of 209 centimetres and an average density of 415 kilos per cubic metre were measured, which made it possible to estimate a snowpack water equivalent of 865 millimetres. This value is lower than the average of the historical series that began in 1967, which was 967 millimetres. These data were collected in collaboration between the Forecast and Planning Office of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Glaciological Commission of the Trento Mountaineers' Society, the Muse, the University of Padua and the Lombardy Glaciological Service.
