On the anniversary of the Marmolada tragedy, on 3 July at the foot of the mountain, the victims will be commemorated and the commitment of the Civil Defence operators will be remembered with a solemn ceremony and the blessing of a space dedicated to meditation in nature. It was 1.43 p.m. on a hot Sunday afternoon when the serac of the Punta Rocca glacier suddenly collapsed, sweeping away several roped parties of mountaineers with 19 people directly involved: 11 of them lost their lives. "The terrible collapse was followed by rescue operations and long weeks of search and management of the area involved, with various operational structures engaged both downstream of the glacier and in the village of Canazei, also in the delicate care of family members. To all of them, I would like to express once again the thanks of the entire Trentino community,' are the words of the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, in dedicating a thought also to the victims and their loved ones. 'Those days will remain indelible in our memory,' adds the mayor of Canazei, Giovanni Bernard. 'The Marmolada is the mountain that we all love and no one could have expected what happened. For this reason, alongside the official celebrations, our town has organised two events to deepen our knowledge and remember".
