The project 'Climate-intelligent tree species for forests in the Arge Alp area', in which the partners from the 10 territories of the Working Community of the Alpine Region took part, came to an end last Wednesday, 13 November, in Innsbruck with an event to present the results and the drafting of a joint final document. Present at the opening meeting were the Vice-President of the Land Tyrol Josef Geisler, the Director of the Tyrol Office in Brussels Simon Lochmann, the Director of Forests of the Land Tyrol Josef Fuchs and, among the technicians involved in the project, the head of the Forest Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento Giovanni Giovannini. In addition to the workshop on the follow-up project topics presented, the two-day event included a visit to the Innsbruck Forestry School and a drone demonstration in the Lans area.
The aim of the project, which will start in 2021, was to build a permanent network of forestry experts from the Arge Alp regions to intensify the exchange of experience and techniques in relation to the adaptation of mountain forests to climate change, which has a considerable impact on the Alpine region. Increasingly, phenomena that lead to the destruction of forest areas (storms, parasites, heavy snowfall) are occurring, which is why it is important to manage mountain forest resources in the long term, ensuring the enrichment of the forest heritage with mixed tree species.
