The air quality monitoring stations operated by the provincial Environmental Protection Agency (APPA) did not show any particular abnormal peaks of air pollutants following the fire that broke out overnight in a factory building in the area south of Bolzano. Despite the foehn winds that are affecting the Adige Valley, with gusts locally exceeding 70-90 kilometres per hour, and the possibility of the winds carrying any pollutants released by the fire southwards, the data analysis confirmed that the measured concentrations remained within normal levels. It is precisely the intensity of the winds that favours the rapid dispersion of pollutants. The absence of precipitation, which could have favoured the deposition of any particles on the ground, helped prevent their accumulation.
