    The nature reserve comprises a number of peat basins on the Tesino plateau, which are home to vegetation associations and botanical species that are extremely rare on the southern side of the Alps. In addition to the actual wetlands, the biotope also includes part of the surrounding woods and some meadow areas, thus constituting an area with valuable characteristics of environmental variety.

    The Reserve is also a Special Area of Conservation.

    It is one of the most interesting in the region due to the presence of biogenic flows and the complex air circulation in the various galleries. It contains very old concretions (over 1 million years old) and thick fossil concretional flows.
    The habitat is also complex: it offers shelter to numerous species of birds, arachnids, etc.

    This is the largest glacier in the Dolomites and occupies the bottom of several adjacent cirques, almost completely merged together.
    Some rocky ridges and walls of the ancient cirques remain, resulting in the formation of distinct fronts. It is heavily frequented by tourists related to winter sports.
