Emigration

Between 1870 and 1970 Trentino was the land of departure for a significant number of mass emigrations, mainly directed towards North, Central and South America, Europe and Australia. In these countries the Trentino people and their descendants formed a substantial community. But emigration is not only a historical phenomenon: the flow of departures has never stopped and, since 2008, it has significantly resumed and is constantly growing. This happens with different modalities and characteristics from the previous phenomenon, especially with regard to the variety of destinations, the fluidity of the movements (so much so that one speaks of international mobility), the often high qualifications of the expats, for whom Trentino has made a significant investment in terms of training, which is now being exploited outside our borders.

In a globalised and interdependent world, the presence of people and communities who retain a sense of belonging to the land of their origins represents an element to be valorised for the construction of a Trentino that is more open and connected to the world.
