Environmental Assessments
The purpose of environmental assessment of plans, programmes and projects is to ensure that human activity is compatible with the conditions for sustainable development, thus respecting the regenerative capacity of ecosystems and resources, safeguarding biodiversity and equitably distributing the benefits of economic activity.
SEA (Strategic Environmental Assessment) serves to integrate environmental considerations into the preparation and adoption of planning and programming instruments in order to ensure the sustainability of the choices to be made. SEA applies to plans and programmes covering different sectors of activity such as energy, transport, spatial planning and waste management.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) serves to achieve high levels of environmental protection and quality by assessing in advance the possible consequences of the implementation and operation of projects/interventions. The EIA of provincial competence applies to individual projects, such as, for example, roads, ski-lifts, industrial plants, provided for the Regions and Autonomous Provinces by Annexes III and IV of the second part of the Environmental Code (Dlg.s n.152/2006).
