Vehicle Inspection Centre – Accreditation of Inspectors for ‘B’ and ‘C’ categories

There are two types of authorisation for authorised inspectors:

• ‘A-B’ type for light vehicles, which authorises the inspection of motor vehicles capable of carrying a maximum of 16 people including the driver, or with a maximum laden mass of up to 3.5 t;
• ‘C’ type for heavy vehicles: this authorises the inspection of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers with a maximum laden mass exceeding 3.5 t, excluding those used for the carriage of passengers, those intended for the carriage of dangerous goods under the ADR, and those intended for the carriage of perishable goods under temperature-controlled conditions in accordance with the ATP.

Authorised Type “A-B” and Type “C” inspectors, certified after 31 August 2018:

• must, in addition to being of legal age, also meet certain competence and initial training requirements set out in the Agreement between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano of 17 April 2019;
• must sit specific examinations before special committees set up by the DGTs in order to obtain their authorisation;
• are subject to periodic training.

Authorised ‘Type A-B’ inspectors, who were authorised by 31 August 2018:

• are subject to periodic training.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

The multiple-choice examination to obtain the qualification of authorised inspector for light vehicle inspections (training modules A-B) consists of 60 ‘true or false’ format to be completed in 40 minutes and is considered passed if no more than 4 errors are made.

The multiple-choice exam to obtain the qualification of authorised inspector for heavy vehicle inspections (training module C) consists of 30 ‘true or false’ format to be completed in 20 minutes and is considered passed if no more than 2 errors are made.

The practical test involves the use of a vehicle inspection line and a vehicle corresponding to the type of authorisation required, and is designed to assess the candidate’s ability to carry out a technical inspection of a vehicle and to use the inspection equipment.
If the candidate fails, they may retake the practical test upon submission of a specific application. The new practical test cannot be taken until at least one month has elapsed since the date of the failed test

A certificate of competence will then be issued.

The quizzes are as follows:

• candidates who, regardless of their place of residence, have completed the course at a training organisation based in Trentino.

Those wishing to sit the exam must submit a stamped application form during the application period by completing and submitting the form online via the ‘Stanza del Cittadino’ portal, which can be accessed via the button below, following identification via SPID (Public Digital Identity System), CIE (Electronic Identity Card), CNS (National Services Card) or CPS (Provincial Services Card).

Forthe ‘B’ module inspector qualification examination:

- the candidate’s application pack, comprising:

1. a copy of their qualification;
2. certificate of successful completion of training courses;
3. documentation relating to experience gained in areas concerning road vehicles (Article 2, paragraphs 5, 6 and 7, of the Agreement between the State, Regions and Autonomous Provinces of 17 April 2019);
4. a copy of their identity document;

- a pagoPA payment receipt, obtained by accessing the ‘Motorist’s Portal’and followingthe PAGOPA INSTRUCTIONS.

The PAGOPA codes associated with the fees for Type B inspector accreditation:

1. proof of payment of stamp duty amounting to €16.00 per exam application, fee code N019 (Trento area);
2. proof of payment of the examination fee of €123.95, fee code T073 (Trento area)

- the following payments may also be submitted after passing the examination:

1.  proof of payment of stamp duty amounting to €16.00 per exam application, fee code N019 (Trento area);
2. proof of payment of the fee for the issue of a certificate of competence, amounting to €5.16, tariff T088 (Trento area);

For the ‘C’ module inspector qualification examination:

- the candidate’s application pack comprising:

1. a copy of the candidate’s qualification;
2. certificate of successful attendance at training courses;
3. certificate of successful attendance at the refresher course (for individuals already authorised or qualified as at 31 August 2018 to carry out periodic inspections of motor vehicles capable of carrying a maximum of 16 people including the driver, or with a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, who attended Module C after 26 February 2022);
4. a declaration pursuant to Article 47 of Presidential Decree 445/2000 stating that ‘the courses were completed in accordance with current legislation’ if the course was completed before 26 February 2022;
5. copy of identity document;

- a pagoPA payment receipt obtained by accessingthe “Motorist’s Portal”and followingthe PAGOPA INSTRUCTIONS.

1. proof of payment of stamp duty amounting to €16.00 per exam application, fee code N019 (Trento area);
2. proof of payment of the examination fee of €103.29, fee code T070 (Trento area);

- the following payments may also be submitted after passing the examination:

1. proof of payment of stamp duty amounting to €16.00 per exam application, fee code N019 (Trento area);
2. proof of payment of the fee for the issue of a certificate of competence, amounting to €5.16, tariff T088 (Trento area);

• 21 April 2026 – Applications to be submitted from 21 February to 21 March 2026;
• 29 September 2026 – Applications to be submitted from 29 July to 29 August 2026.
