Social inclusion of persons restricted in their freedom

The service consists of several interventions that require coordinated and unitary management in order to address the problems of persons deprived of their liberty in their entirety and thus be able to respond effectively and promptly to their main needs. In particular, the service is divided into the following interventions

• Information, listening and support centre. With regard to support activities, the centre provides social secretarial services and individualised support. This social-welfare type intervention is carried out inside and outside the prison by means of a number of professional interviews to examine and verify the specific situation, which may lead to support for the person and/or referral to other services and/or closure of the case. The person's support also includes the following activities permits and accompaniment (it provides for the organisation of the bonus permits provided for by the Prison Ordinance in favour of prisoners, involvement in projects with socialising purposes and the maintenance of family relations); "Care of ties" (it aims at protecting family relations, especially in the moments of meeting between prisoner parents and minor children, supporting the latter during their entry into prison and their stay for the whole time of the visit) support to the resettled persons (this is an activity aimed at systematically acquiring the necessary information to detect the citizenship status, residence and possible expulsion measures of the resettled persons and their relative needs in order to favour their social reintegration also with the involvement of the territorial services). The centre's information and listening activity is divided into various desks, which are also organised according to the type of users and topics dealt with: City of Trento Desk (aimed at people, including family members, who need to express a request for help and guidance to services because they are directly or indirectly affected by measures limiting their personal freedom. The help desk also offers the same people support in finding work and accompanying them in their autonomy); Help desk at the Casa Circondariale (aimed at prisoners who need to express a request for help and guidance to the services and family members to offer assistance and support during visits to relatives. The Desk also provides inmates with information, collects requests for in-depth information and support for the completion of practices falling within the patronage's competence); Rights Desk at ULEPE (aimed at citizens and users, potential and actual, of the External Criminal Execution Office of Trento, as well as persons carrying out activities related to external criminal execution paths. The Desk offers an information and counselling service free of charge).
• Accompanied living for adults: the intervention provides 8 beds for the temporary accommodation of people in external penal enforcement and/or ex-convicts.
• Workshop for the acquisition of work pre-requisites: the intervention provides 8 places for the enhancement of the social dimension through the development of transversal, relational and work skills.
• Construction and promotion of territorial networks: the intervention concerns the organisation of social promotion initiatives aimed at raising awareness in the Trentino community on issues related to the limitation of personal freedom.

Duration
The service was entrusted to the Provincial Association of Social Aid for the period 1 June 2002 - 31 December 2024.

The service is intended for inmates of the Spini di Gardolo prison and their family members; persons admitted to alternative measures to detention residing in the province of Trento or domiciled at provincial institutions or facilities; persons discharged from prison residing in the province of Trento and their family members; persons discharged from prison residing outside the province, limited to urgent services.

To access the service it is sufficient to contact the counters of the managing body. The managing body, through the social secretariat, if necessary, prepares an individualised project to be shared with the competent social services to establish the areas of need, the possible criticalities, the actions and the actors of the social inclusion pathway.
