SQNBA Measures to protect animal welfare

This is a call for proposals covering the years 2026 to 2030, issued by the Agriculture Department of the Autonomous Province of Trento, in accordance with the criteria set out in Article 41 bis of Provincial Law No. 4 of 28 March 2003 – Measures to safeguard animal welfare.

It governs the provision of grants to livestock farmers to cover the costs incurred in obtaining voluntary certification

SQNBA (National Quality System for Animal Welfare).

Objectives:
The scheme aims to encourage the adoption of farming methods focused on:

• Animal welfare and biosecurity.
• The responsible use of medicines and environmental protection.
• Economic development of the livestock sector in Trentino.

Eligible expenses and maximum limits:

The grant covers the costs associated with the certification process, which vary depending on the method of participation: 

Individual operator: Costs charged by the Certification Body up to a maximum of €500.00 (excluding VAT) per farm.

Group application (via cooperatives or lead consortia):

Certification body fees allocated by the lead organisation up to a maximum of €500.00 (excluding VAT) per farm. 

Costs for implementing the internal control system up to a maximum of €300.00 (excluding VAT) per farm. 

Only one application may be submitted per year (even for multiple farms), including the costs incurred:

• For the year 2026 only (on an exceptional basis): Expenditure incurred from 1 November 2025 to 31 December 2026 is eligible.
• From 2027 to 2030: Expenditure incurred from 1 January to 31 December of the year of application is eligible.

The aid covers up to 100 per cent of eligible expenditure incurred in each financial year, for a maximum period of 5 years.

The regulatory framework applied for the granting of these funds is the European ‘de minimis’ aid scheme for the agricultural sector.  

Agricultural enterprises (whether sole traders or companies) engaged in primary production within the Province of Trento are eligible for this aid. Specifically, the call for applications is aimed at the following livestock sectors:

• Dairy and beef cattle.
• Milk-producing sheep and goats.
• Pigs.

At the time of application, farms must have:

• an up-to-date and validated electronic farm record,
• be registered as owners of active holdings in the National Database (BDN) located in Trentino
• hold a valid (not revoked) SQNBA certificate.

Applications must be submitted online via the provincial agricultural information system SRTrento at https://srt.infotn.it, which can also be accessed via the portal https://a4g.provincia.tn.it/ from 23 September to 31 December 2026 at 1.00 pm

Access to the SRTrento members’ area is restricted to registered users only; therefore, each user must first register in accordance with the instructions provided in the user guide on the SRTrento website’s home page.

Applications submitted must be signed using a valid digital signature.

The application must be digitally signed by the person authorised to sign the document; otherwise, it will be deemed inadmissible.

• Year 2026: from 23 September 2026 to 31 December 2026 (1.00 pm);
• Years 2027–2030: from 1 January to 31 December of each year (1.00 pm).
