International driving licence

  • Active

How to obtain an international driving licence.

Description

International driving licences are required to drive in countries where such documents are required, and are issued upon presentation of an Italian driving licence. The validity period depends on the country of destination (usually three years from the date of issue for countries party to the Vienna Convention, or one year for countries party to the Geneva Convention), or it may state the expiry date of the driving licence itself, if this is earlier than the periods indicated.

For information on the driving documents required in foreign countries, we recommend consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website, ‘Viaggiare Sicuri’, at https://www.viaggiaresicuri.it/home; select the country and then the ‘Mobility’ section.
