International driving licence

International driving licences are required to drive in states where such documents are required and are issued upon presentation of an Italian driving licence. They are normally valid for three years from the date of issue (in the case of the United States and Japan, it is one year), or show the expiry date of the driving document, if this is less than three years from the date of issue.

Persons holding an Italian driving licence.

• make an appointment at the offices of the Civil Vehicle Registration Authority, see section "Digital Channels";
• complete and deliver the documents listed in the 'Documents to be submitted' section.
• issuing time: at least one week

The PAGOPA code associated with the tariff is:

• T004 "Issue of permit and international driving licence" (AMBITO TRENTO).

• fill in form 'Application for driving licence revision and other requests TT 746' (fill in both copies);
• original Italian driving licence in view and photocopy thereof;
• two recent passport-sizephotographs on a white background and barefaced on non-thermal paper, signed on the back (if the application is not submitted directly by the person concerned, one photograph must be legalised in the municipality) (it is possible to use the self-service kiosk for passport photos available at the motor vehicle registration office)
• €16.00 revenue stamp (to be affixed to the international document);
• if the file is not presented by the applicant, form TT 746 (signed by the applicant) must be accompanied by a proxy on plain paper and the valid identity documents, in original or photocopy, of the delegating party and the delegate;
• receipt of payment made via PAGOPA.
