Description
The Provincial Historical Photographic Archive comprises over fifty fonds and more than one and a half million phototypes which make it possible to delve into the reality of Trentino over the last one hundred and fifty years from a cultural, economic, political and social point of view, but also to retrace the technical and artistic evolution of photography in Trentino from its origins to the present day.
The collections of the historical-artistic documentation photo library of the Superintendency of Monuments and Galleries of Trento, a peripheral body of the State, which was abolished following the transfer to PAT of responsibilities for the protection, conservation and enhancement of Trentino's cultural heritage (1973); the holdings have grown over time thanks to the acquisition of vast archives and collectionsi.
Thus, the Archive today has professional archives of photographers from Trentino and elsewhere, discontinued photographic archives of institutions and other bodies, collections of photographs and postcards, as well as material reproducing, for the purposes of heritage documentation and conservation status, buildings, works and artefacts of historical and artistic importance in Trentino. The holdings consist of fonds and specimens owned by the Autonomous Province of Trento and on deposit belonging to third parties.
