Driving school - teacher and instructor qualification

The following examination sessions are scheduled for the current year.

Instructor session:

• first session on 5 May 2026 (quiz test and oral; date of practical tests will be determined later) - Submission of applications from 3 March to 3 April 2026;
• second session on 4 November 2026 (quiz test and oral; the date of the practical tests will be determined later) - Submission of applications from 2 September to 2 October 2026;

Teachers' session:

• first session on 12 May 2026 (quiz and written test; date of oral tests will be determined later) - Submission of applications from 10 March to 10 April 2026;
• second session on 11 November 2026 - (quiz and written test; the date of the oral tests will be set at a later date) - Submission of applications from 9 September to 9 October 2026.

Only for residents in the province of Trento or persons who have attended the relevant course in the province of Trento.

The requirements for obtaining thequalification of theory teacher are:

• age not less than 18 years;
• secondary school diploma obtained following a course of study lasting at least five years;
• not having been declared a habitual, professional or trendy delinquent and not having been subject to administrative measures of personal security or measures of prevention;
• driving licence category B normal or special;
• certificate of attendance at a 160-hour theory course.

As regards thequalification of driving school instructors, the requirements are as follows:

• age not less than 21 years
• secondary school diploma obtained following a course of study of at least five years;
• not having been declared a habitual, professional or trendy delinquent and not having been subject to administrative measures of personal security or measures of prevention;
• driving licence:

1. BE and CE to carry out driving exercises for the purpose of obtaining B, BE, C, CE licences;
2. A, BE, CE to carry out driving exercises for the AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, C and CE licences
3. BE, CE and DE to carry out exercises for obtaining B, BE, C, CE, D, DE licences
4. A, BE, CE and DE to carry out exercises for the award of AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, C, CE, D, DE licences
5. BE and CE special licences, for the sole purpose of starting a driving school activity

• certificate of attendance for a course consisting of a theoretical part of 90 hours and a practical part of 26 hours for point 1, 32 hours for points 2 and 3, 38 hours for point 4, respectively.

Only residents in the province of Trento and subjects who have attended the relevant course in the province of Trento

Those wishing to take the examination must submit, during the period in which the deadline opens, a stamped application by filling in and sending the application online through the Stanza del Cittadino (Citizen's Room), which can be reached from the link below, after identifying themselves by means of SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale), CIE (Carta d'Identità Elettronica), CNS (Carta Nazionale dei Servizi) or CPS (Carta Provinciale dei Servizi):

Documents to be attached to the application

• photocopy of a valid identity document and, for non-EU citizens, photocopy of a valid residence permit
• photocopy of the driving licence held;
• pagoPA payment receipt of € 100.00;
• pagoPA payment receipt of € 16.00;
• photocopy of the certificate of attendance of the initial training course;
• (if applicable) photocopy of theory teacher/driving instructor qualification already held.
