Description
Within 48 hours of the loss, theft, or destruction of a driving licence, the holder of the licence must report it to the police, who will simultaneously issue a provisional driving licence. From the moment of issuance of this provisional permit, the licence identified in the report is no longer valid, and in the event of its discovery or return, the complainant is obliged to destroy it.
Once the denunciation has been made, the Police authority will inform the person concerned whether he will receive the duplicate directly at home, by the Central Operations Office (C.O.) of the Ministry of Transport and Navigation, or whether he will have to go to the Provincial Motor Vehicle Office to apply.
The user may go to the Provincial Motor Vehicle Office to apply for a duplicate of the lost, stolen or destroyed driving licence only in two cases
- if he has been referred by the authority that received the complaint, the latter having ascertained that the duplicate document cannot be extracted from the national register of driving licence holders
- if it has been addressed by the Central Operations Office, the latter having ascertained that the duplicate cannot be extracted from the national register of driving licences.
